Men's Health

Many of the major health risks men face, such as heart disease and cancer, can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. It is important to have regular check-ups and screenings.

Sleep and mental health illnesses such as stress, anxiety, depression, erectile dysfunction, and obstructive sleep apnoea are often experienced by men.

The doctors can perform general health checks and discuss any appropriate health screening that

may be relevant. Some common tests include blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol checks, prostate, and bowel cancer screening, and skin cancer check-ups. Our experienced doctors will make you feel at ease to address any health concerns.

Mental Health

A conversation about your mental health with your doctor can change your life. Seeing a doctor and discussing how you are feeling is an excellent first step to getting treatment you need. The doctors are experienced and trained in recognising the early signs and symptoms of mental health illnesses to ensure access to effective treatment as well as providing additional counselling.
We provide empathic care for what can be a difficult subject to discuss but once started we can guide you to a better mental health. The doctors can diagnose you and, if necessary, prescribe medication or refer you on to a psychologist. They may put you on a Mental Health Care Plan which will then entitle you to a substantial Medicare rebate for up to 10 psychologist sessions.

Heart Health

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented through healthy behaviors like eating a heart healthy diet, being active, maintaining a healthy weight and being smoke free. Many people may not know their risk of developing heart disease, especially since you often cannot feel the risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Having a Heart Health Check is important first step to protecting your heart. Your GP and nurse can support you to make positive changes to lower this risk.

If you are 45 and over and do not already have heart disease, you are eligible for an annual Heart Health Check under Medicare. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are eligible from 30.

Travel Medicine

Haven Medical Care doctors are available to advise you on the preparations and considerations necessary for your next trip away and to discuss region-specific vaccination.
When travelling overseas, it is not uncommon for people to underestimate the threat of disease and infection attributed to each region. Almost every travel location has some form of medical risk associated with it. With a consultation prior to your getaway, you’ll have the best chance of avoiding any diseases and viruses that you may be exposed to.
The proper vaccinations and medical advice can be the difference between a stimulating and restful stay and one spent navigating a foreign health system. There are always preparation and pre-emptive measures that can be taken to help mitigate your risk.

Workers Compensation

Workers’ compensation is a form of insurance payment to employees if they are injured at work or become sick due to their work. The doctors can support you with workers compensation management, return to work plans and injury prevention programs.
The WorkCover scheme was introduced by the NSW government to ensure the health and safety of employees.
If you sustain a work-related injury, notify your employer, and speak to your doctor immediately for advice and a WorkCover certificate. Your doctor completes the WorkCover Certificate of capacity for you- this outlines the duties that you can/cannot perform at work and anything that can help with your recovery. The WorkCover certificate of capacity is also used to communicate your WorkCover case with your insurer, employer, and other health professionals involved.

Sexual Health

The experienced doctors can assist with contraception advice, sex education, pregnancy planning and care and important medical advice concerning STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infection).
Many people who have an STI do not develop any symptoms, the doctors are experienced in diagnosing and treating STIs.
We can help with screenings, diagnosis and treatment, while giving you a clear explanation of what it all means.
A sexual health screen can check for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis A, B and C.

Skin Cancer Checks

We recommend a full body skin check every 1-2 years or more frequently for those at high risk, self checks are important too.
Did you know 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70?
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Skin cancers account for about 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year in Australia. Skin cancers can develop at any time so sun protection measures should not be neglected during the cooler months. Skin lesions from sun damage during summer months won’t be obvious straight away. It may take months or years for the damage to develop into skin cancer. The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding surgery.
Please make an appointment for a skin check and to discuss with your doctor about your level of risk and advice on early detection.

Minor Procedures

We have a dedicated treatment room where minor surgical procedures are performed. Removal of minor skin cancers, skin biopsy, removal of foreign bodies, incision and drainage of abscesses, repair of lacerations, Implanon Insertion, Replacement and Removal and Iron Infusions.
Implanon:
At Haven Medical Care Dr Siddharth Kamble performs this procedure,
Implanon is a very effective contraceptive method (99.9% effective), however there are some factors that may reduce the effectiveness of the implant such as: age, sexual frequency, and the medications that you may take. Therefore, it is important to consult with your doctor before making any decisions.
Iron Infusion:
Providing iron by infusion allows for rapid restoration of the body’s healthy iron levels with relatively few side effects.
Iron deficiency can cause lethargy, fatigue and in more severe cases, anaemia which can cause a pale complexion, dizziness, shortness of breath and a reduced capacity for exercise. In pregnancy, iron deficiency can cause restricted foetal growth.
Prior to receiving an iron infusion, you must see your doctor to consider whether further investigation of your iron deficiency is required.
